More Hornets on this list!

These two are likely the biggest winners from the trade deadline that are widely available in most leagues, owned in just 13% and 11% of Yahoo leagues respectively. This Hornets team has been dying for players who can do anything resembling playmaking in recent weeks. Mann is definitely my preference of the two, as he started the first game is is significantly younger than Micic, but both of these guys should have the ball in their hands a ton down the stretch. Mann is a dynasty BUY and a pickup in most redraft leagues, and I would say Micic is a solid buy in dynasty leagues for competitive teams down the stretch, while at the same time being a possible sell high for dynasty teams who don’t necessarily need his production.

Both of them having 9 assists each in the first game with the team is extremely promising. And I would say it’s more likely than not that LaMelo plays less than 10 games to finish out the year.

I really can not understate just how desperate the Hornets were to have actual NBA players out there. Miller and Miles were scoring almost literally all of the points (with a splash of PJ Washington) in recent games after LaMelo “reinjured” the ankle. Both Nick Smith and Bryce McGowens were DNP-CDs in that first game, and while I expect to see Smith rejoin the rotation at some point, the Hornets may have decided they’ve seen enough of McGowens in a meaningful role. Seth Curry also likely gets run to finish out the year as the focus seems to be shifting towards trying to salvage what’s left of a somewhat competitive culture on this team. I look at this very similar to the Pistons ROS outlook where they’re going to try their hardest to actually win games and be competitive as opposed to just throwing young guys out there for the sake of it.

Mann likely has the higher upside as the more explosive player and seems to have more scoring potential, while Micic could be an awesome source of assists ROS. Prioritize Mann, and if you miss out, grab Micic.

Relevancy: Both are a solid pickup in redrafts. Dynasty owners should look to buy Mann and Micic for production, but possibly sell if you’re not competing this year.

Buy #3: Dennis Schroder

Season stats:

Yes, I know he’s still owned in a lot of leagues. This is fairly straight forward, though. Dennis should return to his early season Toronto numbers on this Brooklyn team that has a decent amount of usage vacated by Spencer Dinwiddie leaving. He’s under contract for next year as well as would seem to be a substantial part of the rotation moving forward both this year and next, so in any league where he was dropped due to his downward trend in Toronto he should be picked up. Playoff teams in dynasty leagues would also be wise to grab him for some nice ROS production and it’s possible you might can get him at a bit of a discount now compared to the beginning of the year.

He’s just a player I love to watch and has some truly underrated fantasy potential when given the usage.

Relevancy: Must own in 12+, solid pickup in 10t. Elite buy as a contender in dynasty leagues for the final push.

Sell #1: Bruce Brown

Stats since traded to Toronto:

1225.6.4441.0000.69.24.51.90.90.61.2

Unfortunately, contrary to my take a couple days ago in one of our trade alerts, I think it’s time to cut bait on Bruce. Still owned in 55% on Yahoo leagues, he is just about fully a drop outside of maybe 14+. He’s the 173th ranked player over the last two weeks, and on this new look Raptors team his minutes seem like they won’t get any higher than 20. Bruce needs close to 30 minutes a night to be useful in most fantasy leagues.

There is just not enough usage to go around on this Raptors team to salvage any kind of fantasy value down the stretch with him not being the highest upside guy to begin with. He’s just not really going to help anywhere. Dynasty leagues, it could be wise to hold him until next year as you may get lowballed currently based on his recent production, but if you’re able to get decent value just from his name I don’t blame you for moving him now, either.

Sell #2: Spencer Dinwiddie

Somehow still owned in 55% of Yahoo leagues, Dinwiddie was barely clinging onto fantasy relevance in his large role with Brooklyn. His FG% will actively harm you, there are no defensive stats to speak of, and with DLo playing so well there’s not much upside in LA for him in terms of minutes.

Drop city.
