Andrew’s Dynasty Scouting Report:
Maxime Raynaud is a 7’1” French big man who’s quickly gaining attention after a strong showing at the NBA Combine. He dramatically improved in every one of his seasons playing for Stanford. Long considered a skilled and smart player, Raynaud has now added surprising athleticism to his profile; ranking 1st in lane agility, 2nd in the three-quarter sprint, and 3rd in standing vertical among centers at the combine.
In just 24 minutes at the combine scrimmage, Maxime posted 20 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 three pointers, and went 4 for 4 from the free throw line—an efficient, well-rounded performance that mirrors his college production:
Raynaud Stanford Stats: 20.0 PPG, 10.0 RPG, 1.7 APG, 1.4 BPG, 1.9 3ptPG on 47/35/77 shooting splits.
Raynaud scored more points per game this year than Cooper Flagg, Dylan Harper and Tre Johnson. Did I mention he did this as a center? That is a very high scoring acumen coming from a 7 footer. Raynaud had 7 self created possessions in the half court that ended in a dunk last year. That’s third among all prospects. More than Cooper Flagg (6) and VJ Edgecombe (4).
Defensively, he’s best suited for drop coverage and lacks switchability or elite rim protection. However, with continued development, his offensive skill set could outweigh those limitations. The sneaky athleticism does leave hope that he could provide real value on the defensive end.
Raynaud’s strengths lie in his shooting touch, passing, rebounding, and high basketball IQ. He’s a natural fit in modern offenses as a floor-spacing big who doesn’t need post touches to be effective.
Raynaud’s comparisons:
High End Outcome – Brook Lopez – Not just the Bucks version of Lopez, but the Brooklyn version is possible here too. The threes, scoring, rebounding, passing and shot blocking potential are all there. Brook is a perfect example of a successful drop coverage big that has potent offense and real deal 9 category fantasy value.
Medium End Outcome – Mo Wagner – If he ends up being too limited defensively then he can be a solid offensive spark plug big off the bench who spaces the floor and can chip in the occasional block here and there.
Low End Outcome – Luke Kornet – If it all doesnt come together he can be a great depth option for teams and will have random explosions in performance due to injuries to teammates.
All three of these comparisons and outcomes highlight his offensive versatility and stretch potential.
He was one of the final cuts to make the French Olympic roster that played in Paris for the 2024 Summer games. Next time in Los Angeles 2028 we can expect to see Raynaud and his friend Wemby playing for France together.
Fantasy-wise, Raynaud is a name to watch. His blend of shooting, boards, blocks and FT% gives him sneaky value, especially in dynasty or deeper formats. If the fit is right, he could emerge as a top-100 dynasty asset down the line.
In a dynasty rookie draft it is fair game to start considering Raynaud as early as pick 14. His range will likely be more between picks 17 – 25 for dynasty.
We of course need to see where he lands on draft night. There are some great options in the teens and twenties that could use a backup big man. He will likely land in that teens to twenties range or be an early 2nd round pick who secures a guaranteed contract. Favorite landing spots are: Hawks, Wizards, Clippers, Suns and Hornets.
